Digital Derbyshire brings superfast broadband to 2,200

The first phase of the superfast roll-out has completed, bringing faster internet connections to around 2,200 business and homes, including businesses in Markham Vale and properties in areas of Bolsover, Tibshelf, Holmewood, Ilkeston and Alfreton. About 16 new green roadside cabinets went live in recent weeks. Businesses and homes in the Darley Dale, Bakewell, Ambergate and Repton are next in line.

The upgrade of the Grindleford Exchange is also ongoing, making available to more than 16000 properties in Hathersage, Grindleford and Hope Valley by this fall.

The rollout is part of the GBP 27.67 million Digital Derbyshire project led by the Derbyshire County Council in partnership with the Government and BT to extend access to fibre broadband to more than 95 percent of Derbyshire’s businesses and residents by the end of 2016. BT is contributing GBP 12.87 millionto the project while the county council is contributing GBP 4.9 million. A further GBP 7.4 million is coming from the Government’s Broadband Delivery UK funds, as well as GBP 2.5 million from the European Regional Development Fund.
