Google profitable — if it grows quickly

Google is in the process of expanding fiber, a fiber-to-the-home-based service providing broadband and pay-TV to several million households across tens of US cities.

Despite initial scepticism, one analyst said it may be possible to build a competitive, profitable, fixed network covering a significant portion of US households—provided that homes passed ramps up quickly.

Sanford Bernstein said that whether or not this will indeed be the case will depend in large part on the penetration of homes passed Google Fibber achieves in the cities it targets—and it’s still early in the commercial deployment of the service.
